About OpenProf.com

What is OpenProf.com and what is it for

A learning difficulty is any situation in which the learner (regardless of age) is incapable of continuing with self-study and requires assistance. Educational platform OpenProf.com is offering just this kind of assistance. Learning difficulties are addressed in two sections:

Tutoring section

The tutoring section is designed for those learners who are in need of a personal tutor. To help them search, the website offers a comprehensive and verified list of tutors for all learning subjects. Additionally, tutees are given an opportunity to rate and comment on the work of a tutor, which enhances tutors’ comparability.

eWorkbook

eWorkbook offers a collection of learning documents with the emphasis on exercises with solutions. They are intended for all who are capable of learning or consolidating knowledge on their own, without a teacher to guide them.

Tutors: who is allowed to join OpenProf.com

Every teacher who wishes to offer his services of a tutor, post an invitation to join a course or become a part of the team who creates eWorkbook is welcome to join the platform. A tutor or an educational organisation joins the platform by filling out a free registration form (which takes 3 minutes at the most).

Tutors: on payability of the website

The website is free to use.

Code of Ethics for Tutors

In tutoring, both the professional and the human side of a tutor are of great importance. In the quest to make both tutors and tutees understand the two sides of a good tutor, The National Tutoring Association (NTA) with 3700 members – individuals and organisations – in the USA and abroad, compiled Code of Ethics for tutors.

The guidelines are general enough to be acceptable for all who are involved in tutoring. If your tutor does not abide by them, consider getting a new one.

  • I understand that my role as a tutor is to enable students to do their own work using the best learning approach possible.
  • I will provide honest feedback in the form of positive praise and/or constructive suggestions to the student I serve in a manner that will be beneficial to their overall learning.
  • I will demonstrate faith in my student's learning abilities.
  • I understand that my relationship to the student is professional and not personal.
  • I will show respect for my student's cultural background and personal value system.

  • I will maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions as expected and required.
  • I will respect my student's personal dignity at all times.

  • I understand that my ultimate goal is to assist my student in discovering how he or she best learns and to help my student develop the skills to achieve his or her best educational outcome.
  • I will share any concerns I have with my supervisor.
  • I expect to learn along with my student.
  • I will keep current in both my subject area(s) and learning methodologies.
