Energy and Momentum of a Photon

Energy and Momentum of a Photon problem 9

In an X-ray tube, an electron emitted by the cathode is accelerated with a voltage of 19 kV. The electron collides with the anode and excites one of its atoms. Assume that the electron gives all its energy to the atom. This atom then returns to its ground state by emitting one photon.

  • How many joules is the energy of the photon emitted by the atom on its return to the ground state?

  • What energy does the atom in the anode receive from the electron?

  • What is the velocity of the emitted photon?

  • Which part of the electromagnetic wave spectrum does this photon belong to?
