Momentum and Newton's Laws of Motion problem 21

Two bodies of the same mass are attached to the ends of a light and inextensible rope, which is passed over a pulley. A smaller body of a mass is attached to the body on the right side of the rope. The mass of the rope and the pulley and the friction in the pulley are neglected.

Weights on a string .

  • Draw the forces on the body on the left and on the system of bodies on the right side of the rope and name them.

  • With what acceleration does the whole system start to move?

  • What is the tension force in the rope?

  • Calculate the force with which the body of mass acts on the body of mass .
