Newton's Laws of Motion problem 14


Two logs with masses and that are connected by a rope that is passed over a light pulley lie on a slope as shown in figure 1 below:

The slopes are inclined at angles and to the horizontal. The coefficient of friction between the logs and the slope is . The log with mass is held above the second log with mass and both are released at some point.

  • What is the distance the logs will have to travel for them to be at the same height?

  • What is the acceleration of the logs?

  • How long does it take the logs to be at the same height after they start moving?

  • What is the speed of the logs at that time?
