Uses of X-rays are:
- For examining the body to locate broken bones or hidden metallic objects like a bullet in a patient's arm or a small needle swallowed by a child;
- Used in the airports to detect illicit items in travelers or their luggage;
- Used in the treatment of cancer, tumours, and some skin diseases;
- Used in agriculture to kill germs.
Precaution taken by people who use X-rays:
- Users of X-ray machines wear protective equipment like lead aprons, leaded goggles, and leaded gloves, to prevent the body from being contaminated;
- The surrounding walls of the radiography room are made of thick concrete walls so as to minimise radiation effect on the surrounding;
- Users of X-ray machines wear radiation sensing badges to ensure they are not exposed to X-rays beyond safety levels;
- Users of X-rays undergo regular health checks to prevent the sudden onset of effect of over-exposure.
