Simple Machines problem 13

A mountain climber climbs a mountain along a vertical wall and makes a 1000 m altitude difference. It does 800 kJ of work.

  • What average force would the climber apply if he climbed to the top in a less steep direction that is twice as long?

  • How much distance would the climber cover if he applied one-fourth of the force?

  • How much work would the climber do if he went up the hill on foot, on the other side of the mountain?
