Thermal Expansion of Solids, Liquids and Gases

Thermal Expansion of Solids, Liquids and Gases problem 20

A blacksmith uses an aluminium ruler in his work. He uses it to measure the length of a pipe and then places the ruler right next to the forge furnace, where the temperature is high. The blacksmith then measures the length of the pipe again but the hot ruler shows a different length of pipe from the initial measurement. Does the ruler show a higher or lower pipe length on the second measurement?
